Mrs. Mary Pat Schlickenmaier begins her 25th year with the Diocese of Arlington and her 12th year as principal of St. Rita School with this school year. A graduate of Loyola College, Mrs. Schlickenmaier began teaching right after graduation at Elizabeth Seton High School, where she taught chemistry, physics and bioethics. In 1985 she began teaching junior high science, math and computer technology at St. Mary’s School in Alexandria where she remained for 13 years until 1998 when she was selected as the principal of St. Rita School. Mrs. Schlickenmaier holds a masters degree from the University of Virginia in School Administration and Supervision. She has a Post Graduate Collegiate license from the State of Virginia with endorsements in Administration and Supervision preK-12 and Biology. Her husband, Herb, retired as the Program Director, Aviation Safety, for NASA and is now a consultant for Crown Consulting. He also serves as the webmaster for both the School and the Parish web sites. She has two sons, William, an analyst for the federal government, and John, a high school English teacher. Mrs. Schlickenmaier served for five years as the President of the Arlington Principals’ Association and serves as a Principal Mentor for the Diocese of Arlington.
